After a video appeared on social media showing Xfinity Series driver Álex Labbe driving a Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) GT-1 class Chevrolet on the road course at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR charged Labbe and Xfinity Series DGM Racing team owner Mario Gosselin of violating the NASCAR rule book on testing.
The penalty of a loss of 75 car owner and driver points; along with a fine of $50,000 was appealed.
On August 12, Chuck Deery, Jay Signore and Kevin Whitaker of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel overturned the penalty.
The overturning of the penalty gives Labbe back his 75 docked points; placing him in 16th place in the driver point standings – four spots below the cutoff line for the playoffs.
NASCAR will run its inaugural races on the road course at Daytona this weekend.
