Authorities have confirmed that former “Glee” actress Naya Rivera died July 8, 2020 as a result of accidental drowning in Lake Piru in Piru, California at the age of 33.
The award winning actress was on a boating outing with her four year old son Josey at the time of her death.
Rivera is the third cast member of the hit television show to die; Cory Montieth died in 2013 and Mark Sailing died in 2018.
Rivera played a lesbian cheerleader in 113 episodes of the hit Ryan Murphy television musical comedy series “Glee”.
While she is best known for her appearance in “Glee”, Rivera performed in a couple dozen productions including her debut as Hillary Winston in five episodes of “The Royal Family”, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “Family Matters”, “Baywatch”, “8 Simple Rules”, eleven episodes of “The Bernie Mac Show”, “CSI: Miami”, “American Dad”, and her final role in 20 episodes of “Step Up: High Water”.
As herself, Naya Rivera appeared in numerous talk shows, award shows, documentaries, “Lip Sync Battle”, and was a guest judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.
Besides acting, Rivera authored her memoirs and released some music.
A native of California, Rivera was born Naya Marie Rivera on January 12, 1987 in Valencia. She began her acting career while she was still very young.
Rivera is survived by her parents – Yolanda and George, siblings Mychal and Nickayla, son Josey, and ex-husband Ryan Dorsey.
