Born into a musical family, Gary Lewis knows how to put on a show. From a very early age, father Jerry Lewis taught his son well on how to be a performer.
On March 7 Gary Lewis and the Playboys made a return visit to the Bear’s Den Showroom in the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino for a show that not only featured the life and music of Lewis; but was also a celebration of the music from the ’60’s.
Playing before a packed house, Lewis opened the show with a video clip of his father introducing the band and a performance of “Count Me In”. In between performances of “Love Potion No. 9”, “Save Your Heart for Me”, “Without a Word of Warning”, “I’m Sure Gonna Miss Her”, “I’m a Believer”, “Everybody Loves a Clown”, “I Won’t Make that Mistake Again”, Woolly Bully”, “This Diamond Ring”, “Barefootin’”, “My Heart’s a Symphony”, “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Sealed with a Kiss”, and “She’s Just My Style”; Lewis told stories about the songs, his life, and showed video clips of himself and with his dad.
As Lewis and the band left the stage, the crowd was standing, clapping, and shouting for more. After a few minutes, Lewis returned to the stage for one more song. Saying he didn’t know what to do, Lewis chose a rocking Beatles tune before going out in the concourse to greet a very long line of fans for photos and autographs.
