Long a toy for children, LEGO bricks aren’t just for kids anymore. The plastic bricks have become a teaching tools, and art exhibits.

On October 4, to mark the release of 10 new LEGO Star Wars sets, LEGO landed a life sized LEGO replica of the X-Wing starfighter, like the one flown by Luke Skywalker, near the top of the world at Jungfraujoch, Switzerland on a glacier – 3,454 metres above sea level.

The new sets are from the upcoming “Star Wars” final saga “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. The “Star Wars” sets are the most popular LEGO sets in the collection.

The starfighter was created using two and a half million LEGO bricks.

LEGO "Triple Force Friday"

The landing marks the highest point where an X-Wing starfighter has ever landed.

The starfighter was constructed by an eleven person team led by certified LEGO professional Georg Schmitt. The X-Wing measures 10 metres by 10 metres and took over 1,500 hours to construct.

Senior Marketing Director for LEGO GmbH Florian Gmeiner spoke on the project and the new sets saying, “LEGO Star Wars has inspired children and adults across the world for 20 years and stands for limitless building and play. Bringing a life-sized LEGO Star Wars X-Wing to the Jungfraujoch symbolizes the power of creativity and shows that the new LEGO Star Wars has inspired LEGO Star Wars LEGO Star Wars sets allow us to play out the story after the latest episode. Playing with LEGO bricks lets the imagination soar and allows us to tell stories and sometimes even master challenges. With this event, we’d therefore like to invite everyone to believe in their dreams and their potential because: ‘The Force is in your hands’.”

Along with the new “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” sets, LEGO is offering a new Yoda bust and Millennium Falcon.
