Now that all of the pomp and pageantry of Daytona is over, it is time for grit and grind that is NASCAR on the staple mile and a half tracks.

NASCAR has a variety of rules package depending on the size of the tracks. This weekend at Atlanta, NASCAR is introducing a new rules package for the Monster Energy Cup Series Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

In an attempt to reduce horsepower and increase competition, the Monster Cup cars will use tapered spacers this weekend but will not be using aero ducts.

Pocono, Darlington, and Miami-Homestead will also be using the tapered spacers and no aero ducts.

The race in Las Vegas will be the first to use the tapered spacers and the aero ducts.

The 2019 rules packages will also include higher spoilers, a larger front splitter, and a wider radiator pan.

The new package is planned for about half of the tracks in the 2019 season but will be implemented for all 36 races next season.

NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell spoke on the new rules package saying, “for us, it’s really a focus on getting back to a true focus on the drivers and what NASCAR is all about — close side-by-side racing and trying to deliver more of that.”

Goodyear is also bringing a new left side tire for the Monster Cup and Xifinity Series to Atlanta.
