In 2016, then San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem as a form of silent protest against violence toward people of colour.
Kaepernick’s actions sparked a controversy that went all the way to the White House and cost Kaepernick his job as an NFL quarterback.
In October of 2017, Kaepernick filed a grievance with the NFL Players Association in Oct of 2017 citing collusion that kept him from working and playing on a team.
Last week Kaepernick and fellow NFL player Eric Reid finally resolved their grievances with the NFL.
After joining Kaepernick on the sideline in his protest, fellow San Francisco 49ers player Eric Reid also field a grievance in May of 2018. But unlike Kaepernick, Reid signed on with the Carolina Panthers after being released by the 49ers.
Last week Kaepernick and Reid resolved their grievances with the NFL but the details of that agreement fall under the confidentiality agreement and will not be released.
