Bollywood actress Sridevi died February 18 in Dubai at the age of 54 as a result of drowning after having a heart attack while taking a bath.. She had been in the Arab city for a wedding at the time of her death.
A leading lady in India during the eighties and nineties and appearing in nearly 300 productions; she was considered a female superstar in a male dominated world. She has shared the stage with numerous leading men including Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kamal Haasan, and Anil Kapoor of “Slumdog Millionaire”.
Sridevi was known for her comedic timing and daning skills; which was an asset in the song and dance films popular in Indian cinema.
Sridevi was only four years old when she made her film debut in 1967 in “Kandan Karunai”. From there she appeared in numerous productions including some 30 films all before she was 10 years old. She made her Bollywood debut in 1975 in the film “Julie” as a part of over 100 film roles before she reached the age of 18. Along with her near 300 film appearances, Sridevi appeared in 179 episodes of the television series “Malini Iyer”. Her final film role was in 2017 as Devki Sabarwal in “Mom”. Her appearance in “Zero” will be a posthumous appearance.
Her accomplishments include a spot on the Board of Directors for the Asian Academy of Film and Television, two Filmfare Best Actress Awards, and a State Film Best Actress Award.
She was born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan on August 13, 1963 in Sivakasi, India.
She is survived by he husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Khushi and Janhvi.
