On December 9 the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra presented their annual BPO Kids Jingle Bell Jam.

Prior to the concert, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Wegman’s, and the BPO provided crafts for the children including designing Christmas cards fro the troops.

 

Assistant Directors Todd Craven and Jaman Dunn  shared the conducting duties as the BPO with a little help from the royal Academy of Ballet and the Vocal Symphony of buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts presented a fun filled show of holiday music from around the world to the packed house of music fans.

Todd Craven picked up the baton first to open the program with the “Vergnuegnungszug Polka” (Pleasure Train), Op 281″.

Traveling to Europe next BPO played “Sleigh Ride” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s father Leopold Mozart. And then there was a trip all the way to South America and Brazil for the “Brazilian Sleigh Ride”.

The next stop on the journey was fit for a  fairy tale when the Royal Academy of Ballet took the stage for dances from China, Russia, Arabia,and Spain to excerpts from “The Nutcracker Suite” by Peter Illych Tchaikovsky.

Jaman Dunn took over the baton to conduct the final stops on the holiday tour which featured The Choir and music from the various winter holidays.

Jaman began his portion of the  tour with the Vocal Symphony singing “Seven Principles” – a song of Kwanza.

Next up was a medley of Channukah songs including “Channukah, O Channukah”, “Rock of Ages”, and “I Have a Little Dreidel”.

Then it came time for the audience to join in for “A Holly and Jolly Sing-a-long” with the Vocal Symphony and the BPO.  with the lyrics up on the big screen, the sing-a-long featured “Deck the Halls”, “Jingle Bells”, “Joly Old St. Nicholas”, “Frosty the Snowman”, “Up on the House Top”, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.

The next stop on the musical tour also involved some audience participation for the Spanish Christmas carol “Feliz Navidad”.

The BPO concluded the fun filled afternoon of music with the ever enjoyable “Sleigh Ride”

After the concert, audience members were invited to stick around for some milk and cookies with Santa Claus
