The NASCAR racing season is over, but the NASCAR silly season is still in full swing as owners make changes and drivers play musical steering wheels.
In the latest round of silly season; one team has closed its doors but another is expanding. The Monster Energy Cup Series team Furniture Row Racing shut down at the end of the 2018 racing season but the Front Row Motorsports is expanding to three teams next season.
Joining the number 34 team with driver Michael McDowell and the number 38 team with driver David Ragan will be the new number 36 team with Matt Tifft as the driver.
Two years ago the 22 year old Xfinity Series driver was sidelined mid season by a brain tumour and subsequent surgery.
Speaking on his move up to the Monster Energy Cup Series; Tifft said via statement, “today is a huge moment in my career, announcing my move to the Cup Series. This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I can’t believe it’s finally coming true.”
Tifft continued, “I’m so thankful to Front Row Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to drive the No. 36 next season. I’m looking forward to guidance from veterans Michael McDowell and David Ragan and am ready to take on the challenge of driving with 39 of the best drivers in the world.”
Front Row Motorsports owner Bob Jenkins spoke on the new addition saying, “not only are we here to stay, we’re here to grow. We already have two proven veterans in our lineup, and now we’ll get to add an impressive young talent and championship contender who will inject some new energy into the group. With the introduction of the Ford Mustang into the Cup Series, 2019 is shaping up to be an exciting season for us.”
