Earlier this season Furniture Row Racing announced that they would be ceasing operations at the end of the 2018 racing season. Since that announcement, there has been much speculation as to where Monster Energy Cup reigning champion Martin Truex Jr would go at the end of the season.
On November 7, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Martin Truex Jr would be joining the team next season. Truex’s current crew chief Cole Pearn will also be coming to Joe Gibbs Racing to continue as Truex’s crew chief..
Currently Joe Gibbs Racing has four teams – Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones, and Daniel Suarez. With the addition of Martin Truex Jr, Daniel Suarez will no longer be a part of Joe Gibbs Racing.
Mexican born Suarez first drove for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series where he won the championship before replacing the retiring Carl Edwards in the number 19 car in 2017.
With the closure of Furniture Row Racing, Martin Truex Jr was considered a prime free agent whose placement could send the NASCAR silly season into a whirlwind of activity.
With Daniel Suarez out of a job in two weeks, he is now considered the prime free agent in the Monster Energy Cup Series.
