In race two of the first round of the playoffs, the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Richmond Raceway for some Saturday night racing with the Federated Auto Parts 400.

After three rounds of qualifying Kevin Harvick wins the pole – his 24th career pole – and will bring the field to green.

Stages one and two of the race are 100 laps each with stage three lasting 200 laps for a total of 400 laps around the ¾ mile track and 300 miles.

Kevin Harvick brings the field down for the green flag start of the race and jumps out in front for the lead from the inside lane.

Lap five Kevin Harvick leads the way with the drivers getting two and three wide across the track. After starting 39th Kyle Busch is up to 27th place.

Lap eight, Martin Truex Jr challenges Kevin Harvick for the lead but so far Harvick holds him off.

Lap 12, Kevin Harvick has a quarter of a second on Martin Truex Jr. Kyle Busch is up to 24th.

Lap 15, Kevin Harvick continues to lead the race with Kyle Busch up to 22nd place.

Lap 23, the top five are Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Brad Keselowski. Kyle Busch is ow up to 19th place.

Lap 29, Kevin Harvick holds on to his lead over Martin Truex Jr with Kyle Busch in 18th place. There are 34 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 33, Kevin Harvick has pulled out to a lead of nearly half a second on Martin Truex Jr with Kurt Busch in third. Kyle Busch is in 16th place with 34 cars on the lead lap.

Lap 40, the brake rotors on several cars are already glowing bright red. During the Xfinity Series race on Friday night, several of the drivers had issues with their brakes overheating.

Martin Truex Jr has finally gotten around Kevin Harvick to take over the lead of the race on lap 41.

Lap 44, Martin Truex Jr is in the lead with Kevin Harvick over half a second behind; Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Denny Hamlin round out the top five. Kyle Busch is in 15th place.

Lap 50 Martin Truex Jr has increased his lead over Kevin Harvick to a second. Brad Keselowski is now in third place. There are 26 cars on the lead lap.

Denny Hamlin nearly spins out but the track stays green when he and Ricky Stenhouse Jr make contact.

While the drivers can complete the stage without making a pit stop, many of the drivers are coming down pit road for fresh tires.

AJ Allmendinger was charged with a commitment code violation during his pit stop.

Lap 78, Martin Truex Jr has a lead of less than half a second on Kevin Harvick; Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, and Aric Almirola round out the top five.

Lap 82, the top five are Martin Truex Jr, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, and Aric Almirola. Kyle Busch is just outside the top 10 in 12th place.

Erik Jones was charged with leaving pit road with equipment and Jimmie Johnson was caught speeding on pit road.

Erik Jones had to make a third trip down pit road to make an adjustment.

Going from worst to first, Kyle Busch wins the race; he sweeps the Richmond races this season as he wins his sixth race at Richmond and career win number 50.

With his win, Kyle Busch has locked in his spot in the next round of the playoffs as the teams go into the elimination race next week on the roval in Charlotte. After winning both stages in the race, Martin Truex Jr has also guaranteed his spot in the next round.

With failing brakes, Gray Gaulding is the only driver who did not finish the race on the track.
