In post race inspection after the Bojangles Southern 500 on September 2 at Darlington Raceway, NASCAR issued a few penalties for various violations.

The number 42 Chip Ganassi Racing car driven by Kyle Larson was found to have an improperly secured lug nut. Larson’s crew chief Chad Johnson was fined $10,000 for the infraction.

Prior to qualifying for the Xfinity Series race on August 31, the number 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Brandon Jones failed inspection four times. As a result, Jones was not allowed to qualify his car, had to stat the race from the back of the field, serve a stop and go penalty after the race went green, and lost his pit stall pick for the next race. In addition, NASCAR has assessed further penalties on the team. Car owner Joe Gibbs Racing has been docked 10 car owner points and driver Brandon Jones has been docked 10 driver points.
