Last weekend at Pocono Raceway after the Monster Energy Cup Series drivers made their qualifying runs for the Gander Outdoors 400 the cars were sent through the inspection process. Nearly one third of the field failed the inspection process and had to start the race from the back of the field.
On August 1 NASCAR issued the penalties from the race at Pocono Raceway including two of the drivers who began the race from the back of the field.
The number four Stewart-Haas Racing car driven by Kevin Harvick and the number 95 Leavine Family Racing car driven by Kasey Kahne both failed the inspection process three times. As a result of the failures, car owners Stewart-Haas and Leavine Family Racing have been docked 10 car owner points and drivers Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne have been docked 10 driver points.
Considered one of the big three, Kevin Harvick is tied with Kyle Busch with six wins. After coming from 29th place to finish second behind Busch in Pocono, Harvick was only 48 points behind points leader Busch. As a result of the penalty from Pocono, Harvick is now 58 points behind Busch – the equivalent of a race – with only five races remaining before the playoffs.
