After taking a week off for the Independence Day holiday, “So You Think You Can Dance” returns with Academy Week.

Only 20 dancers – 10 girls and 10 guys – will move on to the live performances and fan votes, but first the 70 dancers must show they have what it takes in a grueling week of dances and choreography.

First up re the solo dances where the dancers must shine if they want to move on to the choreography rounds.

After all of the dancers performed their solos, it was time for the first decisions of Academy Week.

The first to get the news was Jensen Arnold, season nine and “Dancing with the Stars” pro Lindsey Arnold’s sister…and the Arnold name will continue to be a part of SYTYCD.

After all the decisions were made, 53 dancers survived and move on to the Hip-Hop round with Emmy Award winning choreographers Tabatha and Napoleon.

Only 90 minutes into the choreography rounds, Zoe Zimmerman was the first to face an injury. Zoe decides to stay in the competition despite her ankle injury.

For this round, the judges decide who will move on after each group has performed.

After all of the performances, eight more dancers were sent home…45 remain for the next round.

Next up is Ballroom with Jean-Marc Genereaux and a Cha Cha.

While 44 of the dancers are working on their Ballroom routines, Zoe Zimmerman goes to urgent care and has to withdraw from the show.

Drag queen Estranga drops the drag and papears as Hay jackson for the Ballroom round. In an unrepresented move, the judges ask to see Jay dance gain, this time with a different partner. Jay gets his chance to show Nigel that he is more than an entertainer.

Only three dancers were eliminated during the Ballroom round; 41 dancers will move on to the next round and one of the toughest choreographers on the show – Travis Wall.
