The 2008 “America’s Got Talent” winner Neal Boyd died June 10 at his mother’s home in Sikeston, Missouri at the age of 42. Boyd had a number of health issues and had been involved in a serious automobile accident last year.

Boyd won season three of the reality competition show by singing opera. He released only one album “My American Dream” in 2009.

While small town Missouri is far from the halls of the Metropolitan Opera, Boyd discovered opera music.

Before his time on “America’s Got Talent”, Boyd won an award from the National Music Teachers and performed at Carnegie Hall.

Along with his music career, Boyd dabbled in politics as a Republican but failed to win the election for a Missouri House of Representatives seat.

Boyd is survived by his mother Esther.
