After an emotional opening ceremony to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea on February 9 that saw a divided country come together for the first time, the games began in earnest on February 10 with the first medals being handed out with the Europeans dominating the medal count.
In the women’s biathlon 7.5 kilometer sprint, Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier took home the gold medal
In the women’s cross-country skiing skiathlon, Sweden’s Charlotte Kalla won the gold medal with a lead of nearly eight seconds.
In he men’s 1,500 short-track speedskating, the host country os Sout Korea took the gold medal when Lim Hyo-jun set a new Olympic record.
In women’s 3,000 meter speedskating, Carlijn Achtereekte of the Netherlands took the gold medal with the Netherlands sweeping he podium.
In men’s normal hill ski jumping Germany’s Andreas Wellinger won the gold medal.
Medal Count:
The Netherland and Norway lead the way with a total four medals each, but Germany leads the way with two gold medals.
The U.S. Has not yet earned any medals.
