If you had a free round-trip ticket to anywhere, where would you go?

There are lots of places I would like to go and see including my ancestral home and some of the places that my ancestors made a new home.

But, right now, I think the one place that I would like to travel to the most is out to California to see my Dad!

He has advanced Alzheimer’s and lives in a home out there. He is all alone now. Mama Shirley died just over a year ago and her daughter moved to another state. There are children and grandchildren out there, but I don’t know how often they go to see him.

While he is still lucid and can carry on a full conversation, he doesn’t remember what was said.

I try to call him on special occasions and we talk, mostly about sports and music; things that he can remember from the past.

But, that just isn’t the same and I would love to be able to see him, while he still knows who I am.

I told him not too long ago that I had a music question and he really perked up.

I’m a daddy’s girl! Sure, there are daughters-in-law and step-daughters now but I am daddy’s only girl!

When I moved out of my parents’ home, the one thing I truly missed was hearing daddy play the piano. And because of the Alzheimer’s, he doesn’t play any more. 🙁

Daddy turned 91 last month and when I called to wish him Happy Birthday, I told him about going to see Pat Metheny. Daddy is a Classical music dude and knows next to nothing about other musical genres other than a vague recognition of some of the bigger artists.

But, when I was telling him about seeing Pat Metheny and the three encore show; he told me that he wished he could have seen it!

My nephew has a fight out there next week, but I don’t know if a visit to see dad is in the schedule for anyone.
