Up for multiple awards at the annual MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, newly wed Taylor Swift will be presented with the inaugural VMA Artist Director award for her “groundbreaking work behind the camera in music videos and advanced the art of visual storytelling.”
Previously Swift has been nominated seven times for the Best Director award; winning four of them. Swift is tied with Beyonce for the most moonperson awards with 30.
The MTV VMA’s are scheduled to air on CBS and MTV on September 27 beginning at 8pm with Snoop Dogg hosting the gala event.
The three time Moonperson winner noted in a press release, “MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning. Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV – they gave hip hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that’s a full-circle moment for me. And doing it with my brother Van Toffler makes it even more special. Van was there during those early MTV days when we were changing the culture in real time, and we’ve got a whole lot of history together. Now we get to make some new history. The VMAs have always been about those moments you don’t forget – and trust me, we’re gonna give y’all a few more. See you at the VMAs.”
Madonna, Shaboozey, Gunna, Raye, Lisa, Yung Lean, Sienna Spiro, and GENER8ION are all scheduled to perform during the awards ceremony.
