A few months ago, unbeknownst to anyone in the city, the mayor declared a state of emergency in the city. His reasoning was the lack of untended lots not being mowed and pothole filled road not being repaired.
Making use of a ride share one day, the driver told me the police stopped him for weaving back and forth. The police stopped the driver, assuming intoxication; the driver told the officer he wasn’t drunk, just trying to avoid all the potholes!
Niagara Falls is a tourist city and depends heavily on the money spent by those tourists to run the city.
Tourism has been down the past couple of years due to tariff and trade war issues.
One thing that would instantly improve the city is for Washington, D.C. to learn how to act like adults instead of toddlers in the sandbox!
Two summers ago, it was not uncommon to see cars lined up three and four blocks as they waited to cross the bridge back to Canada.
This summer, there little to no traffic was waiting to cross the bridge. Even the bridge used by trucks has not been real busy.
There is a Vrbo house across the street from me; I saw very little activity at that house this summer.
There are a number of things that are needed to improve the city but Washington ignoring the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” is the biggest one.
