After much speculation, the rumours are true…Josh Berry indeed has a ride for the 2027 Cup Series season.
Last week it was revealed that John Hunter Nemechek would not be returning to Legacy Motor Club and the number 42 car next season.
Last week Legacy Motor Club announced that Riley Herbst would be joining the team but as the new third driver in the number 84 car; leaving much speculation as to whom would take over for Nemechek.
Since the announcement on June 10 that Josh Berry would not be returning to The Wood Brothers Racing in 2027, Berry has had six top 10 finishes including a third place finish at New Hampshire after leading for 73 laps.
Legacy Motor Club Co-owner Jimmie Johnson spoke on Berry via press releasse saying, “Josh is a proven competitor who has earned everything through hard work and getting his hands dirty. What stands out about Josh is his ability to manage the big picture behind the wheel — his experience, perspective and wisdom. His career has been built on that foundation, and I know he will have a meaningful impact here. We’re thrilled to have him at Legacy.”
Via press release Josh Berry spoke on joining LMC saying, “Legacy Motor Club is an organization that clearly has a vision for where they want to go, and I want to be part of that. I’ve had a chance to see this team up close, and I know what they’re capable of. The way Jimmie has built this place — the people, the culture, the direction — it’s exactly the kind of environment I want to compete in.”
Before coming to the Cup Series three years ago, Josh Berry drove in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series for JR Motorsports. The Tennessee native won five races for JRM and in 2022 he finished the season ranked fourth in the standings.
Berry will join Erik Jones and Riley Herbst to fill out the three car team for Legacy Motor Club in 2027.
