In the first season of “Star Trek” the original series, was an episode titled “Shore Leave”. What the scouting party found when they beamed down was a beautiful pristine planet. But they soon learned it held a secret – a potentially very dangerous secret.
Every time one of the crew expressed a though or wish, it came to life!
Kirk met an old love (it seems he has one on every planet) and an old classmate and nemesis. There were tigers, old planes, knights in shining armor, and an “antique” gun.
Finally the crew learned that the planet was designed solely for pleasure and if you controlled your thoughts, all could be very enjoyable.
Now, I have my share of nightmares I would dearly love to have disappear, but I could think of some pretty nice things too. There was a lake on the planet; a nice float on the lake in a boat or canoe would be fun. A nice innertube to float on, a nice swim, or just lazing around in the water.
Of course, the water would be the perfect temperature – Goldilocks style…JUST right!
Just imagine, a place where your every wish could come true all in one place.
“Star Trek: The Next Generation” has a pleasure planet, but it is filled with other people, many of whom are there to ensure you have a pleasant visit; but with the planet on “Shore Leave”, there is no big bunch of people or crowded cities…just a lot of wide-open space where you may dream to your heart’s desire with experiences catered just for YOU!
It would be like crawling into a book and becoming a part of hte story.
