The pre-game festivities began with an opening narrated by Kevin Costner and was followed by the players walking out of the cornfield.  From that moment on the game itself became secondary.

Byon Buxton and Kyle Schwarber welcomed the more than 25 Hall of Fame players as they walked out of the cornfield – Jim Kaat, Joe Mauer, Bert Blyleven, Paul Molitor, Andruw Jones, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Harold Baines, Fred McGriff, Adrian Beltre, Andre Dawson, Larry Walker, Cal Ripken Jr, Ivan Rodriguez, Jim Thome, Scot Rolen, Tony Perez, Tony La Russa, Jeff Kent, Fergie Jenkins, Joe Torre, CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner, Rollie Fingers, Lee Smith, and Trevor Hoffman.  Like the players, the Hall of Famers walked out of the cornfield.

Both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins are in a battle for a spot in the playoffs, but for the 8,000 fans gathered in the stands, the game goes far beyond that; it represents family, playing catch, and of course, baseball.

The original field and house from the film still stands but the game will be played on a newly built regulation MLB field with the corn stalks 400 feet away.

And it’s a real old fashioned game with no ABS or hi-tech equipment.

The teams are wearing old time uniforms and are hitting with bats of corn!  Some of the players have sleeves that look like corn cobs and there are bats that look like corn.

What a start….Kyle Schwarber opened the game with a ball in the corn field!  And the wind was blowing in!

Philly Left the bases loaded but scored two runs to open the game.

Leaving two runners on base, the Minnesota Twins failed to score in their first at bat.

Between innings the players reminisced about playing catch with their dads.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Kyle Schwarber hit a second cornfield shot for a two run homer.

At the end of four innings, Aaron Nola has six strikeouts.  The Phillies have added three more runs for a score of Philly 5, Twins 1.

After five innings, Aaron Nola has a season high tying nine strikeouts and leaves the bases loaded.
