After a week off NASCAR returns for some short track racing at Iowa Speedway in a doubleheader weekend The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series gets the weekend started with the HyVee Perks 250.
Thirty-seven teams brought cars for 38 starting spots.
The drivers get a full 50 minute practice session before making a qualifying run for the race later today.
Counting today, there are just two more races in the regular season before the playoffs begin.
Called a short track, Iowa is just short of a mile at 7/8 of a mile.
Eighteen year old Carson Brown is making his O’Reilly Series debut today with RCR.
Ross Chastain in the number nine car is the only Cup Series driver in the race today.
This week Sammy Smith is paying homage to Michael Annett this week with his paint scheme.
Earlier this week NASCAR made a change to the end of stage rules. Beginning this weekend any caution flag that occurs with less than 10 laps remaining in the stage, will end the stage.
Austin Hill has reported numerous handling issues throughout the practice session; going so far as to ask if something were broken because the car was chattering so much.
Brent Crews referred to his car as a “floppy fish”.
Jesse Love ran the fastest single lap early in practice and held the top spot throughout practice with a time of 24.118 seconds. Love also topped the board in all multiple lap times.
The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Joey Gase and posted a time of 24.848 seconds.
Kyle Sieg spins out on his second qualifying lap but avoids hitting the wall.
With a time of 23.966 seconds Ryan Sieg puts his number 39 car on the pole with Ross Chastain starting alongside on the front row. Sieg was the only driver to break the 24 second mark to earn his first career pole.

The caution flag comes out on lap 28 when Nathan Byrd gets loose and spins out after some on track contact.

Jesse Love was caught speeding on pit road and will have to serve a passthrough penalty.
Lap 43, Jesse Love takes his number two car to the garage.

The caution flag comes out on lap 182 when Mason Maggio spins out with a flat tire after some on track contact. Patrick Staropoli also has some damage to his car.
With 65 laps to go, Justin Allgaier finally makes his pit stop. Sam Mayer also makes his pit stop. Jeb Burton stayed out on the track and is the new leader.
