Next week the “Field of Dreams” game returns after a four year absence.
The baseball field used in the Kevin Costner film “Field of Dreams” that was built in the middle of a corn field in Dyersville, Iowa will once again be the site for a professional MLB game on August 13 between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins. This year the game is being broadcast on Netflix.
The baseball field has been renovated and refurbished the facilities with new amenities.
MLB’s senior vice president of global operations Jeremiah Yolkut spoke on the return to the iconic field saying, “being able to come back to ‘Field of Dreams’ and come back to Dyersville, and certainly come back to Iowa, is something that is really important for the league. To be able to continue to program these special event games at different times of the year, in locations that are not always getting Major League games.”
A Part of the pre-game festivities will be a celebration of what makes baseball magical including over two dozen Hall of Famers in attendance including Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Joe Mauer and Rod Carew.
And according to reports, “Field of Dreams” star Kevin Costner will be a part of the broadcast…perhaps even in person.
A custom menu has been created that includes special mid-western foods.
The teams will be sporting historic uniforms with the visiting Phillies wearing uniforms inspired by those worn in 1939 to 1941.
The home team Twins will be paying homage to the team’s original 1961 uniforms.
Before the Phillies and Twins take to the field on August 13, the seventh annual High School All Star Game will be held on August 12 with former Phillies player Jim Thome and Twins’ Torii Hunter managing the teams.
And on August 11 the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and Iowa Cubs will play a game.
