The RIAA – Recording Industry Association of America – has certified the rock band Sublime’s 1996 self-titled debut album with Diamond status.
An album given the Diamond certification means that it has sold at least 10 million copies in the United States alone!
The album has gone on to be one of the most successful reggae-punk albums in music history.
The RIAA has three levels of certifications – Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. A Gold is awarded for selling 100,000 albums, platinum is awarded for one million copies sold and an additional platinum is awarded for each additional million copies sold, and finally the Diamond for 10 million copies sold.
The band was presented with the plaque commemorating the milestone during a performance at the Grammy Museum marking the exhibit “Sublime: Straight From Long Beach”. The exhibit is on display until September 7.
Sublime has recently released “Until the Sun Explodes” – their first album in 30 years.
