While the persistent smoke covered the Midwest and northeastern areas of the United States, summer rain storms pelted the south washing out qualifying for the Cup Series at North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first points race in over 30 years.

Joey Logano won the race in dominating fashion after taking the lead of the race early in the second stage. 

After an ill timed crash between Alex Bowman and Tyler Reddick when Bowman cut across the track headed for pit road and took out Reddick in the process.  The wreck left Reddick with a laps down finish that widened the gap between himself and points leader Denny Hamlin to 68 points.

By the end of the race just six drivers finished the race on the lead lap.
