Among the hundreds (yes, that many) emails I get each day is a newsletter from “Native News Today”.
Not exactly cheerful about the upcoming holiday celebrations, “Native News” asked the question of its readers…
If you were to grade America (A, B, C, D, or F) on how well the nation is living up to the ideal that “all men are created equal” at the 250th anniversary of the United States, what grade would you give it?
From trying to institutionalize people with disabilities, firing and taking away promotions from non-white men, compiling a list of “approved” religions, adding Bible verses in public schools, alienating the poorer 98% of the population, attacking citizens and throwing them in detention centers simply for the colour of their skin, and continuing to take away land or ignore sacred grounds; I would say the answer is a resounding F!
When our leaders openly profess that they do not care at all about the population and their lack of basic needs or whether they can even have food to last the month; then the answer is a resounding F!
When lawmakers and one percenters proclaim themselves “Christian” but perform every act Jesus would abhor; then the answer is a resounding F!
I have not seen the first notion of “Love Thy Neighbour” from anyone who lives or works in Washington, D.C.
When “I’m taking my ball and going home” selfishness over shadows compassion; then the answer is a resounding F!
