This past weekend of racing was a historic event for NASCAR and the United States Navy when all three of the racing series ran on a street course around the island at Naval Base Coronado with the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the background.

The races themselves were not the only history made at Coronado…only six of the 35 trucks in the Craftsman Truck Series evaded any damage after the race had two red flags to repair damage to the walls and fences.  Connor Zilisch had an errant manhole cover bounce across the track and into his radiator.  And in the final broadcast on the Prime Network; broadcasters Adam Alexander, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Steve Letarte called the Cup Series race from the bridge of the aircraft carrier!  The Cup Series had a red flag of its own for fence repairs.

The walls and fences were designed to give when the drivers hit them; as a result, crews had to reset them after a crash.

In the Cup Series race part time Cup Series driver Corey Heim won the race in just his 13th race start.  Heim is signed to 23XI Racing full time beginning in 2027.

Tyler Reddick holds on to the points lead but has seen a lead of over 100 points whittled down to under 10 over the past several races.  Reddick is now just eight points in front of co-owner Denny Hamlin.
