The Craftsman Truck Series drivers have the weekend off but the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series returns for the Miller Tech Battery 250 at Pocono Raceway.
Known as “The Tricky Triangle”, the 2.5 mile speedway has only three corners and they are all different – designed after corners from three different tracks – which makes for a big challenge for the drivers and crews when it comes to setting up the cars.
At over 3,000 feet long, a plane could use the front stretch for a runway.
Jeremy Clements will make career start 547 today, tying Kenny Wallace with the most race starts. Wallace was 51 when he retired, Clements is just 41 and has plenty of time to keeping building on the record.
Thirty-eight teams brought cars for 38 starting spots. Cup Series drivers Connor Zilisch and William Byron are among the drivers in the field for today’s race.
The drivers get a full 50 minute practice session before making a qualifying run.
Joey Gase is stopped on pit road with power issues. The tow truck comes to give Gase a push to his pit stall.
Josh Bilicki also has an issue on pit road that required the use of the track cleaning equipment and will not make a qualifying run.
Patrick Staropoli got loose and spun out in a cloud of smoke. He reports that he didn’t hit anything.
Tire wear will be an issue for the drivers.
Corey Day is on pit road with the hood up. He reports that there was smoke in the cockpit.
Cole Custer is in the garage with possible fuel pump issues; he reported that he was “stumbling” on the track.
Jesse Love topped the leaderboard in single lap times with 54.902 seconds; but Anthony Alfredo and William Byron top the list in multiple lap times.
This is the first time in a month that the drivers have been able to qualify for a race due to all the bad weather the past few weeks.
The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Patrick Emerling who posted a time of 56.511 seconds around the 2.5 mile track.

Turn one is turning out to be calamity corner with Baline Perkins the third driver to spin out and touch the wall.
Rajah Caruth got loose but saves the car…also in turn one.
With a time of 54.686 seconds, Brand Jones puts his number 20 car on the pole with teammate Taylor Gray alongside on the front row.

Stages one and two are just 25 laps each with stage three lasting 50 laps for a total of 100 laps around the 2.5 mile track.

The “Melon Man” himself Ross Chastain will be joining Adam Alexander and Jamie McMurray in the broadcast booth.

Lap eight, the caution flag comes out for a crash involving Ryan Sieg and Nathan Byrd. Cole Custer also has some damage to his car.

All four of the JR Motorsports cars are fourth through seventh with Justin Allgaier leading the way.
Lap 14, Taylor Gray has pulled out to a lead of nearly a second and a half over Sam Mayer; Brandon Jones, Justin Allgaier, and William Byron round out the top five.
Lap 15, Justin Allgaier passes Brandon Jones for third.
Lap 16, Taylor Gray has a two and a half second lead on Sam Mayer. Connor Zilisch, is in a battle with a pack of cars for position.
Lap 18, Natalie Decker brings out the third caution flag when the engine blows in her car.
Some of the drivers come down pit road for service to flip the stage but leader Taylor Gray stays out on the track. There is a loose tire rolling down pit road.
Dexter Bean is charged with pitting before pit road is open. Ryan Sieg is charged with having too many crew over the wall. The loose tire belongs to Josh Bilicki’s car. The penalty cars will start the race from the back of the field.

After winning the race off of pit road, Jusitn Allgaier restarted the race in 13th but has worked his way into the top five.

Drivers who did not make a pit stop at the last caution come down pit road for service. Brandon Jones wins the race off of pit road; Taylor Gray slid through his pit box and lost seven spots in the lineup.
Brandon Jones was charged with equipment interference and William Sawalich was charged with too many crew over the wall. Both will restart the race from the back of the longest line.

Lap 33, Taylor Gray has worked his way back into the top 10.
Lap 34, Carson Kvapil leads the race with Justin Allgaier looking to take the lead. Austin Hill got very loose but saved the car. He is reporting a very loose condition.
Lap 35, Justin Allgaier passes Carson Kvapil on the inside to take the lead and begins to pull away.
The caution flag comes out on lap 37 for a crash involving Leland Honeyman and Patrick Staropoli. Honeyman is stopped on the track after getting into the wall. Staropoli drove to pit road. Brennan Poole made contact with Honeyman who got into Staropoli.

Thirty-four laps to go, Sam Mayer moves up on the inside for another battle with Justin Allgaier for the lead. Mayer takes the lead.
With 32 laps to go, the drivers are now in their window to stop on pit road and make it to the end of the race. Drivers are beginning to make their pit stops.
With 31 to go, Justin Allgaier retakes the lead but Sam Mayer passes for the lead. The drivers continue their battle for the lead.

The caution flag comes out with just six laps to go when Lavar Scott is resting off the track against the wall – inside pit road. Dexter Bean and Jeb Burton were also involved.
During the week off Jeb Burton got married with cousin Harrison as the wedding officiate.
NASCAR has red flagged the race with just five laps remaining in the race.
After a short delay, the drivers refire the engines and get moving again.
