The 79th annual Tony Award ceremony is now less than a week away. The biggest night on Broadway features award presentations and lots of musical performances.
Along with performances from each of the Best Muscal nominees; the Tony’s are awards will pay tribute to the 30th anniversary of “Chicago” with Queen Latifah, Whitney Leavitt, Alex Newell Jesse Tyler Fergusson, Julianne Hough, Dylan Mulvaney, and Tony Awards host P!nk.
In another tribute, the Tony Awards are celebrating 15 years of “The Book of Mormon” with a performance by the original cast members including Nikki M. James, Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells, and Rory O’Malley. The show had to shut down for a few weeks after a three-alarm fire damaged the theatre.
Best musical nominees “The Lost Boys”, “Schmigadoon!”, “Titanique”, “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)”, “Ragtime”, “Cats: The Jellicle Ball”, and “The Rocky Horror Show” will also appear.
“The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon!” earned the most nominations with “Ragtime”, “Death of a Salesman”, “Cats: The Jellicle Ball”, and “The Rocky Horror Show” also garnering multiple award nominations.
The Tony Awards will air on June 7 at 8pm on CBS/Paramount+. The pre-show events begin at 6:35pm on the Live Music channel of Pluto TV with Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess as hosts.
