Buffalo State University continued their artist series on April 26 with a performance by Jazz artist Lee Ritnour and his band – Otmaro Ruiz, Munir Hossn, and son Wesley.
With his most recent album “Brasil”, Ritnour continued the musical journey begun by Spyro Gyra a few week earlier.
Along with the American jazz tunes, and complex rhythms, Ritnour and the band performed authentic Brazilian songs. Bass player Munir Hossn was born in Brazil and performed in both English and Portuguese; helping to bring the songs to life.
Now 74, Ritnour has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years as a solo artist, with a band, and as a member of the group Fourplay with Bob James, Harvey Mason, and Nathan East. The band was originally formed in 1991 with Pat Metheny on guitar; Larry Carlton joined the band when Metheny left; and Ritnour joined after Carlton left.
And on a achily Buffalo night, Leee Ritnour enthralled, entertained, and captivated the near sold out Rockwell Music Hall.
For many a one encore performance was way too short!
