They have been around the world and back again. But they always return home to Buffalo.
On March 28, the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame band Spyro Gyra played a home show at Rockwell Hall at Buffalo State University.

For nearly tow hours the band had the mostly older crowd clapping along and dancing in their seats.

After asking the musical question “What Exit?” in an ode to New Jersey, the evening became a musical journey as fans joined Spyro Gyra as they travelled around the world with stops in Cuba, South Africa, India, and Puerto Rico for Jay’s 0th birthday celebration where he had more than his share in “Old San Juan”.

The show ended with three songs dedicated to where it all began – Buffalo; with what Jay calls the place that gave us the space to create – with “Shaker Song”, “Catch the Sun”, and “Morning Dance”.

And of course, the house was not about to let the band escape without an encore. Spyro Gyra performed one song but the audience would have happily stayed for more as they continued to clap even after the house lights came up.
It has been over 50 years since Spyro Gyra began to share their music, but the band is still sounds as good as ever; as if they were fresh and new as last year.
