Recently “South Park” fans discovered that the newest season of the satirical animated show would not offer a new episode every week; but instead would air a new episode every two weeks.
Casey Bloys of HBO and HBO MAX has announced that the new “Harry Potter” series will not have new seasons every year; saying “from a production point of view, it’s just not possible.”
The latest incarnation of the popular franchise is set to debut next year and run for 10 seasons.
John Lithgow is confirmed to play Profesor Dumbledore and will be joined by Nick Frost, Paapa Essiedu, Janet McTeer, and Paul Whitehouse.
Speaking on the enormity of creating the episodes, Bloys said, “it’s not that everybody involved is just taking their time and sitting around. These shows are complicated to do. In order to bring a show back on an annual basis, you do have to start from the beginning with people who know how to do it […] and it’s helpful if there are no dragons that need to be rendered, or zombies and things like that.”
While “Harry Potter” is very popular, some views by the book series author J.K. Rowling and public hostility, Bloys addressed the matter saying, “the good news-bad news with big IP worlds is you have a lot of passionate fans, huge passionate fan bases. That also comes with people having very specific opinions, people who feel like they’re fierce protectors. So anytime we do a show like that, not just Harry Potter, but any kind of big IP show, we will always talk to anybody participating about social media and best practices and things like that. It is just a reality.”
Series star John Lithgow noted that he even considered resigning over the controversy. Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost also spoke out against Rowling’s views.
