In 2026 the United States turns 250; young for most nations, but a celebration worthy of note.
Back in 1776 the “Founding Fathers” hoped they had created a Democratic Republic to last through the ages and a Constitution that could grow and adapt through the years.
Events over the past number of years have brought some of those principles into question; but the United States of America has a big birthday coming up.
But, with the lack of enthusiasm over big parades and other events that would mark the date in abeyance, one has to wonder…
There has been no announcements of big concerts filled with patriotic music or any other musical events for that matter.
However, two sporting events have been announced that will take place in the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. – a race on the streets and some fights.
Originally billed as one of the biggest UFC events in the history of the sport, the current fight card is lackluster at best.
Being billed at UFC Freedom 250:
a lightweight title unifier between champ Ilia Topuria and interim champ Justin Gaethje
an interim heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane
bantamweight bout between O’Malley and Zahabi
lightweight bout between Ruffy and Chandler
middleweight bout between Nickal and Daukaus
and a featherweight bout between Lopes and Garcia
…a total of six fights.
The fight card has the fight taking place on June 14 at the White House; while other reports are that the event will be a part of the 250th anniversary on July 4.
