Broadway and Off-Broadway have seen some of the biggest numbers in its history this season, including numerous extensions of popular shows.
I’m not sure if anyone has ever kept track of how many times a show has been extended; but if there is a record, the newest version of the Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber hit “Phantom of the Opera” is heading for that record.
The immersive production “Masquerade” has just announced its FIFTH extension! Currently the show is set to run through September 6.
“Masquerade” opened to previews on July 31 with an official opening on September 29 and was set to run through February 1; but after selling out tickets very quickly, the show was extended…and continues to do so.
Taking over the multi-story former Lee’s Art Shop at 218 W 57th St, “Masquerade” runs six performances a night as audience members walk through the re-imagined catacombs under the Paris Opera House as they follow in the footsteps of the Opera Ghost.
The Opera Ghost has issued some instructions for those who come to visit him. He wishes that you wear your finest attire in black, white, and/or silver. Oh, and ladies, please do wear some comfortable shoes good for walking – leave the stilettos in the closet -, oh, and do bring a masquerade mask (although if you forget, one can be provided for you).
For those who require it, the building is ADA compliant and assistance is available if needed; just email ahead at Access@MasqueradeNYC.com so that someone will be available for you.
