As the calendar has turned over, the spring Broadway season is getting started with over a dozen new productions in the next couple of months.
While the list includes musicals, comedies, parodies and film adaptations; with several booked as a limited run.
There are several award winning film and television actors who will be making their Broadway debuts this spring.
It all culminates with the annual Tony Awards presentation on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall.
Spring Broadway season shows:
“Every Brilliant Thing” starting Daniel Radcliffe is currently in previews. The one man show is set to run through May 24. The show includes some audience participation.
“Death of a Salesman” opens to previews on March 6 with an official opening on April 9 and runs through June 14. The Arthur Miller estate allowed playwright Joe Mantello access to Miller’s drafts and notes of the play. Nathan Lane stars in the leading role of Willy Loman.
Emmy Award winning stars of “The Bear” Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach make their Broadway debuts in the stage adaptation of the film “Dog Day Afternoon” that was based on true events of a New York City robbery.
“Giant” opens to previews on March 11 with an official opening on March 23 and is set to run through June 28. The Olivier Award winning play comes to Broadway after a London run. Award winning actor John Lithgow stars as author Roald Dahl.
“Becky Shaw” opens to previews on March 18 with an official opening on April and runs through June 14. Patrick Ball and Alden Ehrenreich make their Broadway debuts in this production of a blind date gone wrong.
“Cats: The Jellicle Ball” makes a return to Broadway this time as a queer ballroom competition. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical made its Broadway debut over 40 years ago. Previews open March 18 with an official opening on April 7 with a run through July 18.
“The Fear of 13” opens to previews on March 19 with an official opening on April 15 with a run through July 1. Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson will make their Broadway debuts in this true life drama about a miscarriage of justice.
The musical comedy “Titanique” opens to previews on March 26 with an official opening on April 12 and a run through July 12. With music by Celine Dion, “Celine” leads a tour through the “Titanic” museum to tell what really happened to Jack and Rose.
“The Rocky Horror Show” makes a return to Broadway with previews beginning on March 26 with an official opening on April 23 and a run through June 21. British actor Luke Evans makes his Broadway debut as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
“Fallen Angels” opens to previews on March 27 with an official opening on April 19 with runs through June 7. Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara star in this production where two women relive their past indiscretions.
Beaches: The Musical” opens to previews on March 27 with an official opening on April 22 and runs through September 6. Adapted from the Bett Midler film; Jessical Vosk and Kelli Barrett star as the life-long friends.
“The Lost Boys” opens to previews on March 27 with an official open on April 26 and runs through November 22. This supernatural comedy-horror” musical was adapted from the 1987 film of the same name. Shoshana Bean stars as the teen’s mom.
Joe Turner’s “Come and Gone” opens to previews on March 30 with an official opening on April 25 and runs through July 12. Set in 1911 in Pittsburgh, Taraji P. Henson makes her Broadway debut as she stars alongside Cedric The Entertainer in this production about themes of identity, migration, and racial discrimination.
“Proof” opens to previews on March 31 with an official opening April 16 with a run through July 19. Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle make their Broadway debuts as they star in this Broadway revival about a brilliant mathematician and his daughter.
“The Balusters” opens to previews on March 31 with an official opening on April 21 and runs through May 24. The production tells the story of a big fight that occurs in a neighbourhood where everybody keeps an eye on everything.
“Schmigadoon!” opens to previews on April 4 with an official opening on April 20 and runs through September 6. A new music-comedy parody was adapted from the series on Apple TV+. Two NYC schoolteachers go backpacking and find themselves transported to a musical theater.
