It isn’t uncommon for a popular Broadway show to extend its run; but one show has called for a two month extension even before the show has opened for previews.

On March 6, the revival of the Arthur Miller play “Death of a Salesman” opens to previews.  On February 18 the show announced that it would be extending its run an additional two months.  Currently the official run of the show at the Winter Garden will be from April 9 to August 9.

Tony and Drama Desk Award winning actor Nathan Lane leads the cast with Laurie Metcalf, Christopher Abbott, Ben Ahlers, K. Todd Freeman, Jonathan Cake, John Drea, Michael Benjamin Washington, Tasha Lawrence, Jake Silbermann, Joaquin Consuelos, Jake Termine, Karl Green, and Jack Falahee.

Lane joins previous actors George C. Scott, Dustin Hoffman, Brian Dennehy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Wendell Pierce in the leading role.

Joe Mantello directs the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play.

The play explores the dark side of the “American Dream” for the middle class.

“Death of a Salesman” first appeared on Broadway in 1949 and has made a return as a revival five times.

Trustee of the Arthur Miller Trust Kate Miller spoke on the upcoming revival saying, “this production promises to channel Salesman’s dynamic power in a completely new way. Part of what’s so exciting about Joe Mantello’s is that he has been immersing himself in our extensive archives and interacting with Arthur’s earliest drafts of Salesman, sounding out a deeper understanding of the play’s inner workings. It’s been wonderful to work with someone who is successfully finding new ways into a play that’s been thoroughly studied, taught, and performed by the greatest artists in the world for nearly eighty years. Mantello’s approach will bring Salesman’s impactful and ever relevant commentary on the American dream to modern audiences, and we’re so eager to see it come to life.”
