According to Dictionary.com patriotic is an adjective meaning of, like, suitable for, or characteristic of a patriot.
expressing or inspired by patriotism.
And patriotism is a noun meaning devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country; national loyalty.
But does it mean unconditionally???
Is it possible to love a country and not those that run it???
These are just a couple of the questions plaguing citizens of the United States.
The past few years have been rather tumultuous in the political arena; making it very difficult in some ways to support the country.
How do you support and feel pride for a country whose leader alienates everyone???? Name calling, bullying, and in general bad behaviour that isn’t tolerated in the play yard sandbox but is being allowed in the White House?
Patriotic and being patriotic is one of many words I find it hard to believe and define. And with the current political climate, it is impossible for me to really define.
For most of my life, I have avoided anything in the political realm; but over the past eight or 10 years, I have found myself reading news items on what is going on in Washington, D.C. and the people who supposedly are running the country. Not that I really car, I just want to know what stupidity has been done in the name of the country.
Politics is the reason I don’t do hard news but chose music and entertainment instead; but even there it seems politics has dominated that news too.
Before 2017 when my phone would go off, I would say, uh oh who died; since 2017, it’s been, on no, what’d HE do now!
I may have questions when it comes to being patriotic to the nation where I was born, but when it comes to family, I am very patriotic. I followed every game my nephew played in college – I even got to see him once – and even though I abhor violent sports like fighting and boxing, I support – and brag endlessly – about my nephew who is a professional boxer. I got to see him fight a few years ago. (Brag time: he has 14 wins, one loss, and one tie with 12 of his wins by knockout and technical knockout). With the help of my brother’s making live videos of the fights, I have seen every one of them. One only lasted two minutes and 58 seconds!

I am also very loyal to my college. I follow (religiously) the football and baseball teams. I can even recognize many players in the pros.
Not into bobsled but a fellow alum is on the bobsled team, so I will have to check that out.
It was in the news recently that the offspring of a VERY famous golfer has committed to the golf team. We already have an alum who is very successful on the golfing circuit (something else I don’t follow – can’t get into it).
