This spring the 98th annual Academy Awards will present the Oscars in a live television event. This year will be historic with the vampire film “Sinners” breaking the previous record to set a new high with 16 total nominations.
The comedy “One Battle After Another” followed close behind with 13 nominations. “Frankenstein”, “Marty Supreme”, “Sentimental Value”, and “Hamnet” also garnered multiple nominations.
While a big hit at the box office, the third installment of the “Avatar” franchise “Avatar: Fire and Ash” earned only costume and visual effects nominations; it is the first of the “Avatar” films not to earn a Best Film nomination.
And the second part of the “Wicked” film “Wicked: For Good” failed to earn any nominations at all.
Also new this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is adding a new award for casting.
Every category in this year’s awards has an international nominee and for the eighth year in a row, an international film is among the nominees for Best Film.
The 98th annual Academy Awards will air on March 15 in a live television event from Los Angeles with Conan O’Brien hosting the gala event.
