For the second year in a row, Broadway is experiencing some record setting crowds and box office draws. While there has been a few shows closing early, several more are extending their runs.
The revival of the musical “Chess” has extended its run for the second time. “Chess” is now set to drop the final curtain on June 14.
The musical features music by Time Rice and Benny Andersson of ABBA fame and is the story about American and Russian chess champions competing for the win…and the same woman during the Cold War.
On March 6 Mygel D. Robinson and Brian Quijada return for a 10 week limited run of “Mexodus” at the Off-Broadway venue the Daryl Roth Theatre.
Inspired by the real-life tales of African Americans who escaped slavery, Robinson and Quijada play all of the characters in the show; as well as, play all the instruments.
Robinson and Quijada spoke on the show saying, “the energy and enthusiasm audiences brought to Mexodus last fall was CRAZY and we can’t wait to bring it back to New York. In every performance, we start with a chaotic assortment of instruments and, through looping, create something much bigger than ourselves. From the stage to the global Audible release, we’re honored to extend the reach of this story of solidarity. In these insane times, it’s important that we remember that we’re all in this together. “Cats” makes a return to Broadway later this year with “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” this spring. The show opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 18 with an official opening on April 7.
The ”Cats” meet for an annual ball that includes augmented dance music.
The musical will include “runway seating onstage and banquette seating at the front of the orchestra section with tickets beginning at $250.
Many of the performers from the Off-Broadway production are returning for the Broadway run.
