Julien’s Auction House has offered some of the biggest and most sought after items on the auction block over the years.
But this time around, they have some very unique items from skateboard legend Tony Hawk, Banksy, Powell-Peralta and Beastie Boys with the Street Art & Culture Auction.
The auction set for February 4 will feature some 70 items that include “pieces honoring the icons that have shaped contemporary art and skate culture” including the shirt Tony Hawk wore during the 1999 X Games when he performed the first documented 900 aerial trick which has been signed; along with a poster.
Last June, Julien’s sold the skateboard from the 1999 X Games for $1.15 million – the highest price ever collected for a skateboard.
Also on the auction block are Steve Caballero’s “Half Cab Dragon” board, skateboards by Powell-Peralta, a limited edition “Sale Ends” screenprint signed by Banksy, punk rock and protest works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jamie Reid, and Shepard Fairey; and artwork from Gorillaz, Beastie Boys, and the Wu-Tang Clan.
These pioneers helped to transform the street and skate parks into stages of expression and defining a generation.
