The Library of Congress is a massive depository of every piece of music and literature created in the United States…and beyond.

 As a part of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the LOC is sponsoring a series of free and open to the public concerts and conversations about American music. 

Registration to attend the events is required on the Library of Congress website – loc..gov.

The LOC has released the schedule for the Winter and Spring concert schedule which include:

Ted Sperling conducting “Loewe & Behold: Revelations from the Frederick Loewe Collection”.  Loewe composed the music for “My Fair Lady”, “Camelot”, and “Brigadoon”.

In a celebration of acquiring the “Burt Bacharach papers”, Andy Eihnhorn will lead a concert of “An Evening with Burt Bacharach”.

The Washington National Opera will preview the Pulitzer Prize winning production“Treemonisha” by Scott Joplin that will include performers from the WNO Cafritz Young Artists program.  WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and composer Damien Sneed will lead a panel discussion.

Two LOC commissions are also on the program with Diné composer Raven Chacon leading an evening of his own compositions.  And Mimi Stillman leads the Dolce Suono ensemble in an evening of chamber works by American composers.
