These days there are lots of things moving in and out of Washington, D.C.

Among the things moving into the Nation’s Capital – at least for a couple of weeks – is the Tennessee Williams play “A Streetcar Named Desire”.  But what makes this production different is that it will take place in an actual underground station…with NO props or set!

Scheduled for performances from April 20 through May 1; the unabridged play will take place at the historic Dupont Underground platform.

Created by Nick Westrate and Lucy Owen; for the past two years, the site specific production has been touring around the United States.  A SoHo fashion boutique, movie theatres, churches, barns warehouses, art galleries, factories, and even private homes have played host to the play.

When “A Streetcar Named Desire” plays the ACT in San Francisco, it will be the first time the play will appear in a traditional theater setting.

The cast for the Dupont Underground platform performance will be announced in the coming weeks.

Play creators Nick Westrate and Lucy Owen spoke on the play via statement saying, “from the very beginning, we have stripped down this seminal American play to its raw, beating emotional core.  We’re dedicated to taking Streetcar to new depths, and we cannot wait to bring it underground.”

Dupont Underground CEO Ana Harvey added, “bringing ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ to Dupont Underground is a powerful alignment of place and story.  This bold reimagining by The Streetcar Project resonates deeply with our mission to foster intimate, emotionally charged, and artistically daring work. We are thrilled to welcome this groundbreaking production and to continue transforming forgotten public space into a living, breathing home for extraordinary theatre.”

“A Streetcar Named Desire” made its original Broadway debut in 1947 and closed two years later after 855 performances and starred Jessica Tandy and Marlon Brando.

Tickets are on sale now at TheStreecarProject.com and begin at $85 for general admission tickets.
