Seven time NASCAR champion and co-owner of Legacy Motor Club Jimmie Johnson no long drives full time but selects a few races each season. 

Now 50, Johnson has announced that he will make a bid to run for the Daytona 500 driving the Legacy Motor Club number 84 car.  It will be his 23rd Daytona 500 if he makes the race.

A two time Daytona 500 winner the 84 car is a non-chartered, non-regular driver, Johnson will have to race his way into the event by putting his car on the pole or earning a spot in the line-up via one of the two Duel races.

The 2026 Daytona 500 will take place February 15 as the culmination of Speedweek to kick off the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Johnson also plans to run the street race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego.
