For months the Opera Ghost “teased” the theatrical community of his return to Broadway in a new production of “Phantom of the Opera”.
“Masquerade” arrived Off-Broadway to the new Opéra Populaire – the old Lee’s Art Shop at 218 W. 57th St – in late September and has continued to sell out the house.
An immersive production, “Masquerade” puts on six separate performances each night; starring six different actors portraying the Phantom himself.
After two extensions, “Masquerade” is set to close on March 29.
On December 18, “Masquerade” will give phans a peak behind the curtain via Playbill’s official Instagram page beginning at 5pmET.
The live stream will travel into the Phantom’s lair with never before seen sneak peaks into the immersive staging design and appearances from cast members and the creative team including director Diane Paulus, Haile Herrier, Eryn LeCroy, Claire Leyden, Francesca Mehrotra, Riley Noland, and Kaley Ann Voorhees.
Phantom phans are well aware of the Opera Ghost’s trickery and can well expect a surprise or two along the way…oh, and keep an eye out for falling chandeliers!
The longest running production on Broadway, “Phantom of the Opera” closed in 2023 to make way for a renovation of the Majestic Theatre.
Phans who plan to attend “Masquerade” are issued “orders” by “The Host” to wear festive costumes in black, white, and silver with a special note to the ladies to leave the fancy shoes at home and don comfortable footwear since walking among the “catacombs” is a part of the show. Oh, and a mask is also required attire. Masks will be provided for those who do not have one.
