What are your feelings about eating meat?

It depends on the meat…

I do not eat pork and for the same reason I don’t eat shrimp, oysters, clams, lobsters, or crabs.

I dearly love to venison but unfortunately it can’t be found in the local grocery store. Reindeer is pretty good too.

I eat a lot of fish, turkey, and chicken, and I like beef; but I am picky where I will eat said beef, especially hamburgers.

When it comes to fast food burgers Wendy’s is ok…the others…not so much.

Hard Rock Cafe burgers are awesome and there is a local place that sells Hallal food (according to Islamic law). Kosher meat is really good too.

One thing that sets them apart is the way the animal is slaughtered and eliminates as much blood as possible. It really does make the meat taste better.

When we went to Russia, the midday meal was included – we were on our own for breakfast and dinner. When we walked into the dining hall, the tables had bread- dark and light – and plates filled with tomatoes and cucumbers.

The first course was always some soup – I at least tried them all and decided borscht was not my thing.

Next was the main course that was always some form of beef and potatoes. We were never sure exactly what part of the cow it was, but it was beef.

The funny part of it all was the students started complaining about having meat (beef) and potatoes every day. So when we went to Moscow for the weekend ( we stayed in St. Petersburg), they served fish for lunch…more complaints; and then a bunch of them headed for McDonald’s where they got hamburgers and french fries – meat and potatoes!

I have to say the McDonald’s hamburgers were way better in Russia than they are in the United States. One of the rules for a McDonald’s to be in a foreign country is that they have to use local products. I’m not sure how they feed and care for the cows in Russia but their hamburgers and milk sure was a lot better than here!

The price of beef has gotten so high, you almost need a loan to buy it, but ground turkey is really good and a whole lot less expensive. I much prefer the ground turkey when I make spaghetti or Shepard’s pie (oooo, love me some PIE!).
