What are your two favorite things to wear?

It is one of my favourite things about winter…getting to wear flannel! 🙂

I love the soft warm feel of flannel; whether it be a shirt and skirt or a long flannel gown for sleeping.

It is a bit frustrating that you can’t find flannel shirts in the female clothing department; you have to go over to the guys area for the plaid ones. It would be so nice to go to the girls clothing area and find a nice warm flannel shirt with some pretty flowers all over it.

And forget about finding a skirt. Many years ago, you could find flannel lined pants for the winter. I have a friend whose mother was so disappointed when she went shopping one day and could not find any winter pants with flannel lining, like she could when she was younger – she was in her early 90’s at the time. (She was 102 when she died!)

Me, I have a mother who could sew anything and I have leaned some basics – enough to make my own skirts. I can make a nice skirt out of two yards of fabric and I don’t even need a pattern – sew up the sides on the machine, put a casing in for the elastic, hem it up, and voila, a skirt for less than $15.

And then there are my moccasins!

Until a couple of weeks ago, I could say that all of my shoes were moccasins in various forms. I had to buy a new pair of winter boots and unfortunately, they are not moccasin boots. I have some slip on soft sole shoes I made from a kit, moccasin loafers, two different short boots, and a pair of knee high boots. My snow boots are fur lined and were made by the Manitoba Nation in Canada.

For me, moccasins are the most comfortable shoes. Great for walking in the grass (I love walking on the grass), okay for concrete and asphalt, but gravel…not so much!
