The process of selecting eligibility of productions, actors, and cast members for the Tony Awards is a long and complicated process. On November 20, the Tony Administration Committee met for the first time as they begin that process for the 2025-26 season.
Dates for the nominee announcement and annual Tony Awards gala have not been set and were not a part of the agenda for this meeting.
When it comes to determining the leading, supporting, and feature actor categories; the standard rule is if the name is above the show’s title in “Playbill”, then they are leading actors and if the name is below the show’s title in “Playbill”, then it is a supporting role. However, there are exceptions that must be considered.
Determinations made for this meeting:
Leanne Pinder is eligible for Best Choreography in the play “Punch”
59 Studio’s projection design will compete along with Adam Honore and Donald Holder’s lighting design for “Ragtime”
Joshua Henry and Brandon Uranowitz from “Ragtime” will be in the Lead Actor in a Musical category
Christine Sherril is eligible for Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in “Mamma Mia!”
Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken are eligible for Best Sound Design of a Musical for “Mamma Mia!”
