What is good about having a pet?
I don’t own a pet…too many landlords either don’t allow pets or charge a very large fee to do so.
But, I know people who do or have. And there are numerous programs around that use animals as a part of therapy and recovery.
I think that is the biggest reason for having a pet…companionship!
Older people who have lost a long time partner have a companion to help them through the lonely days…someone who needs but gives. The need for food and caring can help in the grieving process by providing unconditional love.
Pets are no longer just a pet to keep out the vermin or help with security…they are family! Real members of the family!
Stuffed animals used for hugging and calming nerves are being replaced by the family pet a’ la emotional support animals that are no longer left at home but go everywhere – which is causing some issues of its own.
Certainly pets can be a lot of work – depending on the type of animal it is – but they are dependable and loving which can be a huge benefit for some.
