Martinsville Speedway is a half mile track that often brings hostilities among drivers.

Some of those hostilities boiled over into aggressions after the race.

After the checked flag of the Xfinity Series race Sam Mayer hit Jeb Burton, spinning Burton into the wall.

As a result of his actions, NASCAR has suspended The Haas Factory Racing Team driver for the final race of the season at Phoenix Raceway this weekend as a violation of Section 4.4.B of the NASCAR Member Code of Conduct.

The Haas Factory Team has chosen not to appeal the decision saying, “although we are disappointed with the results, Haas Factory Team will not appeal the penalty NASCAR issued to Sam Mayer and the No. 41 team following last weekend’s race at Martinsville Speedway.”

The statement continued, “we remain focused on finishing the season out strong at Phoenix Raceway and look forward to contending for a race win with Ryan Sieg at the wheel.”

During the Cup Series race Cody Ware lost a wheel on the race track.  According to the NASCAR rule book, “wheel detachments” are a safety violation.  Jackman De’Quan Hammpton and rear tire changer Marquill Osborne have been suspended for two races.

With the race at Phoenix Raceway this weekend finishing the out the 2025 season, the suspension will rollover to the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium next February.

In other  NASCAR news, William Sawalich still has not been cleared to race after suffering concussion like symptoms form a crash at Talladega Superspeedway.  Justin Bonsignore will drive the Joe Gibbs Racing number 18 car at Phoenix Raceway on Saturday.

Sawalich spoke on the issue in a statement saying, “unfortunately, I didn’t get medically cleared to compete this weekend in Phoenix.  As a driver, you want to be behind the wheel for your team, but I understand the importance of being fully ready before returning. As I continue to work toward getting back to 100%, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Collins and his UPMC staff. I also want to thank (crew chief) Jeff Meendering, the number 18 team and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing for their unwavering support this season. We will be prepared and ready to go when the season begins in Daytona this February.”
